The newly recruited 2018 FASTANA (Disaster Resilience Facilitators) team visited LPKA Klas II (Juvenile Rehabilitation Center Class II) Banda Aceh to give earthquake mitigation and evacuation workshop to the residents of the facility. This activity is a part of FASTERIZATION (FASTANA Action for Disaster), a series of disaster mitigation actions carried out by the concerned youths gathered in FASTANA.
“The juvenile facility was chosen as the socialization target because the children have little access to the important knowledge of disaster mitigation. Hopefully this will develop their capacity in disaster risk reduction and later they will grow to become a resilient generation,” explained Sri Riski Yanti, the coordinator of the action.
The workshop focused on earthquake evacuation scenario within the facility’s environment. It consisted of two parts: learning the key lessons about disaster mitigation and making earthquake evacuation map for the facility. The lessons were delivered in a way that encouraged the children’s interest in disaster risk reduction, a topic relatively new to them. The team successfully drew the children’s enthusiasm, as proved by their high engagement during question sessions. The children also defied the FASTANA teams presumption about them as they exhibit openness, order, respect and politeness.
This activity was highly appreciated by the General Director of Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Sri Puguh Utami, and the chief of LPKA Klas II Banda Aceh, who were present at the venue to oversee and liven up the activity.
Bravo to the FASTANA Team in action!
